The key to providing critical information to a customer is being able to support vehicles and the vast information they provide. When it comes to Electric Vehicles such as Tesla, we wanted to support the fastest-selling EV on the planet. So when customers ask us “I have a fleet of Teslas can you support us and our business needs?” we can answer confidently.
We do this by understanding information from Tesla’s Controller Area Network (CAN bus). The CAN bus is what all the devices in the car use to communicate with each other. With our device and know-how, we can listen in on the CAN bus and also send messages to request the devices to provide us with information. This allows us to get a much richer dataset to use in providing either real-time alerts (for instance real-time battery) and really working out what an asset is doing and how it compares to the rest of the fleet.
Here is a very “small sample” from a Tesla Model 3.
At Fleetsu, we have become very adept at scanning cars to see what is being sent and received on the CAN bus, and then translate that into our common data model to allow you to leverage all that data for your own purposes. Tesla also offers a way you can access the data yourself as well, see here – https://edr.tesla.com/.
There is a lot of power in having your EV information across the entire Fleet
- Which EV cars should I charge first?
- What is the percentage of unusable battery cells per vehicle?
- What is my cost per charge?
- Can my daily route be served with an EV?
- What are my most cost-effective recharge zones and times?
The list goes on, however, we wanted to share with you a snippet of what goes on behind the scenes. We are so damn excited about what we can offer on our platform through being able to successfully, reliably request and receive information from one of the fastest-growing car companies in the world, Tesla.
